A hard fought but a well earned 1-0 win in Greenogue on a beautiful sunny spring morning, perfect for a football match. In a tense game that was 0-0 at half time, a Jack Quinn goal proved to be decisive in the end and that matched with tenacious defending at the back by Kyle, Aron, Josh and in particular Luke, we managed our first clean sheet in a long while. The ref at the start insisted because Wayside also had some green in their kit that we change our kit so we had to don our bright orange training bibs and this could have been a factor in dazzling the opposition and if it worked this week I might use it again in the future . I have to mention Luke in particular for an outstanding performance at the back this week, he almost single handily kept us in the game on more than one occasion and Josh in goal put in, his now customary consistent display.
In midfield Colmog, Jack Quinn and Jack Gleeson put in tremendous shifts never tiring and continually chasing and hassling the Wayside midfield and defence while Justin was on the end of the chances created by the midfield and had chance after chance but it would not go in for him today, in fact it is the first match this season Justin has failed to score what is remarkable in itself. Hopefully it's only a blip and not like RVP he will be scoring again in the next match.
From a coaching view I could not have asked more of the lads today the win was forged out of pure determination and the will not to give up and by following my instructions form the side line by continuing to keep the faith in our passing keeping our positions and not giving up. We were missing some key lads today as well so it was very pleasing that we did manage to win. Another huge thanks again to the parents for their continued support and commitment and we will continue to keep working hard in training, we can all enjoy more days like this.
Colm.
